As part of The Bahamas 49th Independence Celebrations, under the theme ‘Proud to Be Bahamian’, the first in a series of Distinguished Lectures was held Tuesday, July 5, 2022. The lecture took place at the Harry C. Moore Library of the University of The Bahamas under the theme: “The Road to Independence”.
Distinguished Guest Lecturers were Evangelist Rex Major, OBE, MM, and Rev. Dr. Philip Rahming, OBE, CB, JP. Both spoke about their experiences growing up pre-independence and, thereafter, in an independent Bahamas as of Independence Day, July 10, 1973. Pastor Major has affected the lives of many people for almost 70 years in ministry at Grace Gospel Chapel.
He has been compared to American televangelist Billy Graham, and has preached the gospel throughout The Bahamas, the Caribbean, the US and Canada. Dr. Rahming wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as well as the National Song: God Bless Our Sunny Clime.
Permanent Secretary Jack Thompson thanked the lecturers for telling their stories; the audience for their support, and the university for facilitating the event.

TODAY’S FACEBOOK MEMORIES PHOTO: I depend heavily on Facebook for a wider distribution of articles published in my online publication BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which was launched after my diplomatic appointment as Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at The Bahamas Embassy in Washington, D.C., was rescinded following the change of government in The Bahamas in May of 2017.
Rather than return to The Bahamas, I decided to remain in D.C. and have established THE BROWN AGENCY LLC, which offers a variety of services, including writing press releases, promotional articles, editing and proofreading. BAHAMAS CHRONICLE was launched to keep Bahamians and nationals from other Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries living in the diaspora up-to-date on selected news from their respective countries. In addition to The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE has attracted a huge following across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
However, I am still struggling to make BAHAMAS CHRONICLE financially viable, despite rates that are very affordable. I have a standard rate of $200 for promotional articles and $300 a month for a business card-size advertisement that appears daily in BAHAMAS CHRONICLE throughout the month. You can check out BAHAMAS CHRONICLE at bahamaschronicle.com if you would like for us to assist you in promoting your business or an upcoming event you are helping to organize. My Facebook Memories photo today is a classic photo posted five years ago, on February 6, 2015, when I was Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at the Bahamas Embassy. I decided to use it as a springboard to promote BAHAMAS CHRONICLE because of the two prominent Bahamian religious leaders who are included in it during their courtesy call on His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Eugene Newry.
Rev. Dr. Genius Wells ad Rev. Dr. Philip Rahming were in D.C. to participate in the annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Thursday, February 5, 2015, which incidentally was held this morning (February 6). Every President since Dwight D. Eisenhower has attended the annual breakfast since it started in 1953, and current U.S. President Donald Trump was one of the speakers at this morning’s prayer breakfast.
Today’s Facebook Memories photo was initially posted with the following caption:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rev. Dr. Genius Wells, President and Senior Pastor of Chapel on the Hill on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway in New Providence, and Rev. Dr. Philip A. Rahming, Pastor of Rehobth Ministries and Vice President-at-Large of the Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Education Convention, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., on Friday, February 6, 2015. Dr. Wells used the occasion to say a special prayer for the entire staff of the Embassy, who assembled in the conference room and joined hands as Dr. Wells offered his prayer. The two distinguished Bahamian religious leaders were in Washington for the annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at which U.S. President Barak Obama spoke. Every President since Dwight D. Eisenhower has attended the annual breakfast since it started in 1953, and Thursday’s event marked President Obama’s seventh appearance. Also in attendance was the Dalai Lama, whom the President lauded as “a powerful example of what it means to practice compassion,” and someone “who inspires us to speak up for the freedom and dignity of all human beings.” Pictured from left to right during the courtesy call are: Mr. Mikhail Bullard, Third Secretary, Bahamas Embassy; Mr. Chet Neymour, Deputy Chief of Mission; Rev. Dr. Wells; Ambassador Newry; Rev. Dr. Rahming; and Miss Krissy Hanna, Second Secretary, Bahamas Embassy.
